I have been trying to get my money back from AMEX for the past two years or so. Who can help as they seem determined to keep it without just cause? Does one need to go to a court of law? I had thought that a company of this magnitude would be sincere and straight but I wonder what their designs are. H M Njuguna.

Having read the correspondence , you know what ? I don't think there is a human being answering your letters at all ! I think it is computer that is regurgitating a standard programmed reply. Maybe you should email them using Unix and see if they make more sense that way! Or perhaps a polite request for how much of amex cuxtomers money goes towards the fees for expensive bullshitters? Good luck to you!

I have been rejected twice by AMEX despite my great credit history with VISA nd MASTERCARD. Funny thing is after I received the rejection letters, I received calls from VISA and MASTERCARD to offer me higher credit levels!!! I guess the AMEX is suffering devastating bad management. They are loosing new customers while others are strengthening their relations with their customers.

1. what do you mean by 'get my money back'? If you are complaining about fees its all in the cardholder agreement .... try reading it. 2. ' Only me telephoning at my cost to chase and still nothing.....total crap service!!' ... do you have any idea of what a 800 number is? The 800 number is on the condensed cardmember agreement on the application that you filled out... There are no toll numbers for new accounts or customer service as I'm sure anyone with a brain already knows. 3. Letters are onced over by a clerical group and are not directly answered as you need to call customer service for a response. The reason being is that there may be a distinct department that needs to answer specific questions and lets face it... no one really uses snail mail anymore... especially a credit corporation which is more interested in satisfying inteligent customers. If you cant figure out a phone then maybe you are not bright enough to lend money to. 4. Jerry K Philip - IBM set their own corporate agreement with AMEX (which is why IBM has its own dept there) ... if you arent happy with you corporate card, then talk to IBM. 5. H M N - what do you mean by 'get your money back' ? the fees that you maybe incurred while being past due costing the corporation that lent you money to have to pay interest on it themselves? The fees are all just. READ the cardmember agreement.... its all there and if you didnt like what it said you shouldnt have signed and used the card. And if you didnt take the time to read the terms then stop complaining. Its simple business... on the lending products they dont even charge interest! only fees for membership and if you are late. That is MORE than fair. I know all of the answers to these questions very well :) And I'm sorry to hear that the few of you who couldnt figure it out (theres some in every group) had to mumble your questions silently online. try a phone people... oh and reading is a great tool for knowledge... just a tip.

AMEX enrolled me to their Shoppers Advantage Club without my consent for the past few years. I tried to cancel the membership many times without success. Below is my recent email to shoppers Advantage. I get a shameless response. To all sufferers of AMEX and Shoppers Advantage, please spread the following paragraph to your friends. Further to my membership cancellation letter dated December 2003, I haven't see a refund yet. During the past few years, I was enrolled by somebody to your shopping club withouit my consent. I never cashed any checks!!! I think that's enough information for me to report these incidents to Belmont Police. Thank you for taking the time to email us at Shoppers Advantage. We apologize for any inconvenience in this matter. We request to contact the Membership Department because they will be able to determine if a credit was issued back to your account. They may be contacted at 1-800-526-4848 Mon.-Fri. 8am.-11pm. & Sat. 9am.-8pm, Sun 12pm-8pm(EST). One of our representatives will be happy to assist you. If you have any further questions or concerns in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact our office by email at anytime. Thank you, Jannene, Your Shoppers Advantage Representative.

I have a AMex gold card, and I have no problem with them. They have a good rewards program, and offer more services than VISA or MASTERCARD. If you don't like them, don't use one, simple as that

Some time ago, I applied for an American Express Gold Card. My Credit history was excellent and I was making a lot more money than most my own age. After waiting for some 4 weeks with out any reply, I contacted American Express to enquire the status of my application. The guy I spoke with told me I would have to wait for a minute while he gets the information. While he thought he had put me on hold, I over heard him saying "Look how young this jerk off is and he wants a Gold Card?". When he came back to the phone I advised him that I heard what he said. He was obviously a person who envied my financial position. I requested that I speak with his supervisor to which he refused. At this time I did not want the card anymore and decided to continue my rights for my own satisfaction. He did however change the subject by advising me to come to their office the next day and pickup my Gold Card. The next day, I went to their office and my card was waiting at reception. I requested a pair of scissors and cut the card up in their faces. Problem solved.....

I have an American Express Blue Card and I love it. It's pretty, and they accept it everywhere. As for being rejected in application, I've been a member since I was a college freshman so I dunno about that. Also, their minimum payments are fine I think. Although, I'm thinking of applying for a Gold card after I find a new job so I'll get back to y'all on that.

It's the only card I'll use when available. I like the year end statement and love the reward points.

What's the point of having an american express card? I just recieved an application for a gold card and I see that it's a bit different from a

"regular" credit card such as visa, mastercard, or discover, in that the total balance must be paid each month (right?). Why would I want credit if

I've got cash? Does an AmEx card build your credit in any unique way? Plus, if I immediately pay of my monthly balances on my other cards then I

don't get charged for financing at all. Why does AmEx feel they can demand payment in full each month yet still charge a $90 annual fee? It doesn't

add up. Can someone explain ?

I recently had some issues with the American Express Gold Card.

First, my application took over 4 weeks to process, even though I already had a Corporate Card.  The application was only completed after a 75 minute (I timed it) phone call.  At one point, I was put on hold for 11 minutes while someone looked for a phone number for me!  How can it take 11 minutes to look up a phone number?  They were obviously trying to get me to hang up and let them off the hook.

When I did finally get my card, it was sent with the same exact numbers of a card I had cancelled a few months earlier.  So, when I tried to use it, it was refused.  To resolve this issue and get a new card required a 45-minute phone call to customer service.

I asked to speak to a supervisor, and they put me through to a supervisor's voice mail!!  I had to leave a message for a supervisor who has not contacted me since I left a message. (4 weeks ago)

I used to love Amex and I use the card constantly.  However, their customer service has dropped considerably.

Try calling customer service to ask a general question and time how long it takes until you are speaking to a live person.  By the time you have clicked on the appropriate options, listed to the appropriate messages, and typed in your credit card number (which they ask for again anyway), at least 2 minutes have gone by.  Why is this acceptable?  I thought the annual fee was paid to ensure quality customer service.

American Express Card is the best credit card I can have in my life. Its customer service is fantastic and responsive. I don't know which credit card can be better than AmEp.
